Dragons, out of this world

Jim isn’t having a terribly successful career. The teaching position promised him has been delayed yet again, and he is left without the salary to afford him and his fiancé Angie a place of their own. They can’t even afford to rent a run-down trailer. Angie is an assistant to a guy experimenting on astral projection. Well, one day, he out-of-worlds her and she disappears. Jim is outraged and demands to be sent the same way, but the guy tones it down so it sends only his consciousness after Angie. Then he can hypnotize her into returning and simply will himself back. What could go wrong? Well, first, Jim finds himself inhabiting the body of a dragon known as Gorbash. Then Angie is kidnapped by another dragon and Jim has to gather companions to help him storm the dark tower and rescue her by defeating the dark powers.

I enjoyed the book well enough. It was rather fun in the concept and the simple hero-companions quest format, with a few twists. The characters definitely had their strong characteristics which I found not overdone, in fact I quite liked the characters. It goes over a few interesting concepts, but it’s a pretty simple story with a rather predictable conclusion.

I don’t even know how I ended up with a copy*. If you love dragon stories, or oz/isekai type of stories, or want to see what those looked like in the 70’s, you might want to pick up this book.

It’s not very special and yet it was a fun read.

Review also posted on Amazon and Goodreads.

* I figured it out later. The 1982 animated movie The Flight of Dragons is loosly based on this book!
