Not much of a future

Maia is a half-goblin in a land where elves are the ruling class, and his father only married his mother for a political alliance, and then cast her aside. Maia has been raised in a small household with no training or potential for much of a future… until the airship carrying his father and all of his half-brothers crashes, leaving Maia as the heir to the throne. Amid an already unbalanced court, with scheming politics and family members he has never met, Maia has to learn all the things an emperor should already know… including that no one can really be his friend.

This is my second time reading this book, so obviously I enjoy it.

After reading a couple chapters of this each night I find myself talking to my cats in the formal language of the book “we need to get up for a moment, but it would please us if you would be here when we get back”. Hah 🙂

From the language to the setting to the characters, I continue to love this book on each reread. And finally the sequel is out!

Review also posted on Amazon and Goodreads.

At this point, there are 2 semi-sequels published: Witness for the Dead, and the Grief of Stones. Both good, although both pretty short.
